Malcomson Law at the National Ploughing Championships 2009.
The Irish Farming Community who are in the midst of an increasingly difficult period are expressing concerns regarding the possible effects of issues such as the introduction of NAMA and changes in banking security requirements to access funds.
Such potential threats to the future of Irish farming arrive alongside falling farm incomes and proposed government cutbacks in areas such as the Rural Environmental Protection Scheme (REPS). As a result, many Farmers during the National Ploughing Championships event were seeking legal advice to protect their farms and families in light of these new challenges .
At this year's National Ploughing Championships 2009 in Athy, Irish Farmers could avail of the opportunity to attend free talks on "Legal Issues for Farming Families" hosted by Malcomson Law, a leading Irish Solicitor's Firm with offices in both Carlow and Dublin. The talks were held in the "Malcomson Law Marquee" over the three day event, from 22nd to 24th September, 2009.
The above mentioned issues relating to NAMA and bank securitization were addressed during the talks by Cathy Power, a Commercial Law expert. Cathy explained; the potential NAMA fall out for family farms; whether banks are seeking too much security over farms due to their bad experience with developers; and she provided details on the options available to farmers to deal with these issues. Cathy Power's talks were a great success and she was referred to in The Irish Independent during the National Ploughing Championships.
The talks also addressed two other major areas of legal concern for Irish Farmers. Managing Partner, Raymond Bradley, addressed the matter of Succession, which relates to the distribution of property after death and is particularly useful to individuals who feel they were left an inadequate provision of farm assets in his/her parent's Will. A talk on family disharmony was also presented by our Family Law expert, which covered areas such as legal Separation/Divorce and their impact on farm assets.
