Health Staff to commence lunchtime protests
Twenty eight thousand health service workers (which also include many administrators from the HSE) will stage lunchtime protests between 12.30pm and 2pm outside twenty eight health centres and hospitals across the country tomorrow. These protests are part of the ongoing industrial action campaign by members of the Impact Trade Union over the controversial recruitment restrictions put in place by the HSE.
Trade Union Members
Impact Trade Union members have been engaged in a work-to-rule for the last two weeks. The actions which have been carried out by members as part of their work-to-rule have been not to co-operate with corporate management of the HSE by not providing details or attending meetings on issues such as absenteeism rates, employment levels, activity levels in A&E, developments and monthly activity statistics etc.
Impact stated that its strategy was aimed to affect HSE bureaucracy rather than patients and that the actions carried out will prevent the HSE accumulating data it uses to make cutbacks.
Response from both parties
Last week the HSE warned Health workers that it could take disciplinary action against those who became involved with the protests.
The Health Workers trade union Impact stated that should any attempt be made to penalise their members, they would issue a quick response and indicated that they were available for negotiations to resolve the current dispute.
At present, there appears to be no sign of reconciliation between both parties although sources indicated that efforts will be made to get the sides to meet later in the week.
