Neonatal Conditions
Compensation for Neonatal Conditions
Your child may be entitled to compensation if he or she suffered as a result of a lack of care or poor clinical judgement which resulted in clinical negligence.
Neonatal Injury e.g. Hip Dysplacia
Health services for newborn babies and children are of a high standard in Ireland. However, sometimes things can go wrong.
Failure to detect an injury early in life can lead to permanent disability later. Take for example the condition known as "clicking hips", or hip dysplasia. All babies should be regularly monitored for hip dysplasia as soon after birth as possible, as a delay in diagnosis can make treatment more difficult and complicated, and even lead to permanent disability.
These examinations should continue until the baby is walking.
Although hip dysplasia is often believed to be congenital, i.e. occurred in the womb prior to birth, a more accurate term is that is developmental. Developmental dysplasia sometimes occurs later in a baby's life, so that regular checks are required even when the initial examination was normal.
Delays in diagnosis are a frequent reason for Neonatal Medical Negligence Litigation .
