Radiation Treatment

The use of ionising radiation to control malignant cells as part of the treatment of cancer

Redemption

Payment of a mortgage loan in full.

Redundancy

Dismissal from work because a job ceases to exist.

Re-engagement

Where the Tribunal orders that the employee resume work in the position he held immediately before his dismissal or in a different position.

Reinstatement

Is to the position which the employee held immediately before the dismissal on the same terms and conditions as he/she enjoyed.

Reserve

The agreed price at which a vendor is willing to sell a property.

Residential Institutions Redress Board

A board established by the government in 2002 to assess and award compensation to individuals who suffered abuse while resident in certain institutions that were subject to State regulation.

Respondent

A person against whom family law proceedings are brought.

Rest Period

Any time that the employee is not working time.

Restraining order (barring order, safety order, injunctive)

An order prohibiting a person from committing certain acts, for example using violence against the applicant for the order.

Restraint of Trade

Is a common law doctrine relating to the enforceability of contractual restrictions on freedom to conduct business.

Restrictive Covenant

A term in a contract of employment which prevents an employee from doing certain things after leaving that employment.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

An autoimmune disorder that most commonly causes inflammation and tissue damage in joints and tendon sheaths, together with anaemia. It more typically affects women than men.

Rheumatology

A subspecialty of general medicine that involves the non-surgical evaluation and treatment of the rheumatic diseases and conditions. Rheumatic diseases and conditions are characterized by symptoms involving the musculoskeletal system.
